Wedding Hair Planning

1. Consultation

The first stage in your wedding hair preparation is to book a free consultation with us. Here, we can discuss your requirements, as well as any ideas you have in mind for you and your bridal party.

Our hair and beauty experts will offer advice on your pre-wedding beauty needs, from haircuts and colourings before the big day to manicures, pedicures, waxing and other beauty must-haves.

We recommend starting your wedding preparations as early as possible – three months before your big day is a good benchmark.

2. Wedding hair trial

Practise makes perfect, and we want perfect when it comes to wedding hairstyles and make-up. It’s a good idea to have a wedding hair trial a couple of weeks before the day itself. By this stage, we will have an idea of the looks you want to try out and you can get a picture of the end result.

Our hairstylists can get an understanding of the bridal hairstyles you like, and work out the best looks for your wedding dress style and hair accessories. We’ll provide you with professional advice and suggestions based on the information you’ve given us and your specific hair type.

By the end of the hair trial, you’ll decide your favourite and have your final wedding hair look sorted.

3. Hair care

In the run-up to your big day, you want to do all you can to make sure your hair is looking its very best. That’s why you should start with regular hair care and hair treatments as soon as possible.

At Skye Norman, we have a huge selection of treatments available, from our extremely popular Organic Brazilian Keratin treatment to our ‘Choco Crunch’ Intensive Chocolate and Argon Oil treatment.

These will deeply moisture your hair from the inside, leaving it feeling and looking incredible.

On the day

You are best to wash your hair the night before, leaving it entirely product free. Hair that is too clean and soft can be difficult to work with and less likely to stay put.

Whether you’re coming to us or we’re coming to you, just sit back and relax – we’ll take care of everything and ensure your hair is looking fabulous and photo-ready from the wedding ceremony to the first dance.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

A: It’s worthwhile taking a bit of time when it comes to searching for a bridal hairstylist. The internet is full of so many different options, but finding a reputable and experienced bridal specialist that’s perfect for you can take a bit of digging. Test out your finds by looking at reviews and booking a consultation session.

At Skye Norman, we offer a number of professional hairstylists and make-up artists that all know how to make your life a little easier, helping you with that pre-wedding stress.

We understand you want to feel comfortable and connected with your wedding hairstylist, to make sure you get the exact look you’re after. Find out more by booking a free consultation with us!

A: Absolutely! Your wedding hair should team with your wedding dress perfectly, complementing its shapes, its neckline and its general feel – otherwise, you will detract from the overall picture! It’s all about the balance.

If your dress is sleek and narrow, a large elaborate wedding hairstyle or bridal headpiece may give the illusion of being top heavy, for example. This dress style would be best-suited to a polished and sophisticated hairstyle.

Long-flowing hair – straight or curly – looks perfect with strapless dresses as it brings attention to the face and upper body, whilst one-shoulder dresses are best teamed with a neat updo, so as not to distract from the neckline.

A: As well as judging what wedding hairstyle is best with your dress style, you need to think about what will last on the day. During your consultation and hair trials, your stylist will take into account the density and texture of your hair, and be able to advise you if the look you want will go the distance.

Your trial is a good time to put your final ideas to the test, so make sure you have a couple of hours to test-drive a few different wedding hairstyles on the day.

Oval face shape: When it comes to different hairstyles, the oval face shape is the most versatile. You can get away with almost anything – lucky you!

Oblong/rectangular face shape: With these long and generally slender faces, you are best to steer clear of centre-partings and wearing your hair long as these will only narrow the face more and drag you down. The key is building outwards and encouraging body in the hair.

Round face shapes: You need to minimise the volume at the sides and build upwards. Side partings or side-swept fringes work perfectly as they offset the roundness.

Heart face shapes: A side parting helps to create a slight asymmetry to what is a rather symmetrical face shape. Spanish styles drawn to the side of the nape will create more width to the chin area, balancing out the width at the temples and hairline.

Square face shapes: With a strong and angular jaw and an equally square hairline, you need to pick a style that will soften these edges, and avoid styles that add width at the jaw line. Curls are a great choice for a softening look.

Triangular face shapes: The opposite of a heart face shape, triangles have a more prominent jaw line and are narrower at the cheekbones and temples. Any kind of updo with lots of texture at the top and sides will work well to detract from the strength of the jaw line, along with loose strands of hair to soften the edges of the face.

A: To make sure you’re getting the most out of your professional wedding hairstylist is to give them as much detail and information as you possibly can. A good stylist will be able to take into account the whole image that you want to project on the day, whatever the theme or general vibe of the wedding will be.

If you find it difficult to express your ideas, write them down or even take clippings of wedding magazines that have hairstyles you like. The more the hairstylist knows about you and your personality, the easier it will be for them to personalise a look tailored to you.

A: It’s a good idea to have your wedding hair trial a couple of months before the big day. It may be that you need to have some work done on your hair colour, or some hair treatments to improve its condition. This way you and your stylist will have enough time to get your hair looking its very best for your special day.

There are a few things you should make sure you bring along, including:

  • Magazine clippings/printed images
  • Fabric samples
  • Images of your wedding dress
  • Any hair accessories or hairpieces you may want to use, including veils and tiaras
  • A camera to take pictures from all angles

Our team will provide you with top tips and suggestions to ensure your skin is looking its best for the big day, as well as an ultimate bridal make-up look to make you feel fabulous.
